Lonnie Jackson Hamby

Lonnie Jackson Hamby was born April 4, 1935, in Springfield. Missouri and died March 18, 2018 in Des Moines, Iowa. Lonnie served in the First Marine Division during the Korean War. After the cessation of hostilities, Lonnie was assigned to the First Provisional Demilitarized Zone Police Company patrolling the Korean Demilitarized Zone and enforcing the articles of the Korean Armistice Agreement. Lonnie also served in Vietnam as a Marine. Subsequently, Lonnie entered and retired from the U.S. Army.


Lonnie and Marilyn Thompson were married in 1958. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage until her passing on December17, 2016.


Lonnie is survived by his children Candi Banghart (Bill), Jackie Brock, Lonnie Hamby (Alana), Chris Storm, sister Hazel Fisher, fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren and many children he and Marilyn fostered over thirty years.
